Peter Tomaž Dobrila – Curriculum vitae
I'm an electronic and IT engineer and a musician who focuses on the creative use of the new technologies.
In 1996 I co-founded the Multimedia Centre KiberSRCeLab – KIBLA (MMC KIBLA), Maribor and was its head. After I was adviser specialised in international collaboration projects within Europe and also with other countries, especially with Asia. I initiated Multimedia Center Network of Slovenia – M3C as unique in the world, he started the project X-OP – eXchange of art Operators and Producers as European network and ASEUM – Asia-Europe Media platform.
Since 2005 I'm Adviser of the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Austria.
I prepared the winning bid for the European Capital of Culture 2012 for Maribor with partner cities. I did Local Program of the Municipality of Maribor for Culture 2007-2011. I initiated winning candidacy at UNESCO for the World Book Capital 2010 for Ljubljana.
I was a member of the expert group for the Preparation of strategy for inclusion culture and arts into Information Society and of a Committee for the preparation of the National Program for Culture 2008-2011, both at the Ministry of Culture. There I'm also a long-time member of several expert committees and. In 2013 I was invited by the Municipality of Maribor to become a member of the expert committee of the Glazer prize for art and culture.
In 2009 and 2010 I was employed by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia as General director of the Directorate for Arts. In 2011 I was invited to work at the Maribor 2012 – European Capital of Culture as Adviser to the Programme Director.
I've got a long history of European Programs, within which I started the Slovenian participation in 2002, first year, when it was eligible country in the EU Culture Program, and in the European Capital of Culture project.
I prepared the first Slovenian official participation since its membership in Cork 2005 (Ireland) and after I continued to collaborate with Sibiu (Romania) and Luxembourg in 2007, Liverpool 2008 (United Kingdom), Vilnius (Lithuania) and Linz (Austria) in 2009, Istanbul (Turkey) and Pecs (Hungary) in 2010 and Tallinn 2011 (Estonia).
In 2011 I was co-curating the Contemporary Art from Slovenia exhibition at the European Central Bank organized in co-operation with the Bank of Slovenia, also marking the 20th anniversary of Slovene independence.
In 2012 I was a Commissioner of the Republic Slovenia for the 13th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice – la Biennale di Venezia, the biggest architecture event in the world.
Cultural and Educational Programs and Technology EPEKA, which was first association in Slovenia upgraded into social enterprise.
In 2014 I co-established CODE BLUE Production to cope with film and audio-visual contents. Beside this I collaborated in the preparatory board for the Local Program for Culture of the Municipality of Maribor 2015 – 2020.
